Farewell Dinner to H.E. the Ambassador of India Mr. Dilip Sinha

The Hellenic-Indian Society for Culture and Development organized its annual Indian Dinner on Sunday 21 February 2010 at 21.00 at the Indian Restaurant “Iskandar” in Alimos (Amfitheas 6 and Poseidonos Avenue, tel. 210-9886474). Chief Guests were H.E. the Ambassador of India to Greece Mr. Dilip Sinha and his wife, who had to return soon afterwards to New Delhi upon completion of their mission in Greece.

The President of ELINEPA Dr. Dimitrios Vassiliadis, on behalf of all the members of the Society, expressed his gratitude  for his substantial contribution to the development of the Greek-Indian Relations. On this occasion he presented to the departing Ambassador an original copy of a bust of Hercules from the Agora Museum. He explained that the choice of the statue was made because the Ambassador’s home town is Patna, which according to the Greek tradition was founded by Hercules in pre-historic times when the Greek Hero visited India after Lord Dionysus.

H.E. the Ambassador of India thanked everybody and added that during his tenure he had the honour to arrange thesinha tsagrinos visits of two Prime Ministers to India. This fact alone can show the increasing interest of Greece towards IndiaHe was also impressed that so many guests  gathered that night. When asked what impressed him most in Greece, Mr. Sinha said that he had never expected to see so much love and interest for the Indian culture amongst the Greek people.

During the dinner many members of ELIINEPA had the opportunity to discuss their work in person with the Ambassador and to offer him souvenirs from Greece. Very impressive was the Pythagoras’ glass offered by the well known editor and writer George Tsangrinos, who explained that this glass overflows by itself if you place in it wine beyond the measure.

The general impression of all members of ELINEPA was that H.E. Mr. Dilip Sinha was one of the most beloved Indian Ambassadors who came ever in Greece and all expressed the wish that he comes again soon in  the future as our honoured guest.
