THE REVELATION OF HINDI-STYLE SONGS IN GREECE
Original Greek title: ΙΝΔΟΠΡΕΠΩΝ ΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΨΗ
by Helen Abadzi & Manuel Tassoulas
Rendered into English with Commentaries by Radhika Yeddanapudi (2016)

Around the year 1954, there appeared in Greece from the magical land of India, films with haunting melodies that had been well hidden in the records of some music companies. Many Greeks knew of their existence, but hardly anyone knew exactly what they represented.

It is common knowledge that many popular Greek songs of the 1960s are Indian adaptations. But which were they? Where did the Greeks find the songs and what were the reasons for these adaptations? What do the Indians say about this? How did Indian films affect Greek films? All these questions played on our minds while working on this book as many different comparisons appeared, that we decided to research this unusual topic in more depth. However, it was not always easy to find an answer to this enigma. Fortunately, nothing can be hidden from the internet. During an inter-continental odyssey between 1967 and 1997, over three continents, through encounters between people and events, forgotten songs were found and the secrets came to light.
