The following Sanskrit language courses will start at the Athens Cemter for Indian and Indo-Hellenic Studies for the academic year 2018-2019:
1. Class A for beginners – Introduction to the Sanskrit language
New course starts on Monday, October 22, 2018
Weekly lessons. The course is based on the book “Introduction to Sanskrit Language” by Dimitrios Vassiliadis and includes learning of the Devanagari script, vocabulary, syntax, grammar and study of selected Sanskrit passages.
2. Class B for second year students
New course starts on Wednesday, October 10, 2018
Weekly lessons. The curriculum includes further deepening in grammar, syntax, and the study of Sanskrit hymns (mantras).
Eligible for registration in Class B are those who have successfully completed the introductory course or have basic knowledge of the Sanskrit language.
3. Class C – Study of Sanskrit Sacred Texts
New course starts on Monday, October 8, 2018
Weekly lessons. Learning the Sanskrit language through the study of selected texts such as Bhagavat Gita (classic Sanskrit), and Upanishads (Vedic Sanskrit). The lessons include etymology and literal translation of the words and interpretation of the grammatical and syntactical phenomena we meet.
Enrollment in Class C requires adequate knowledge of the Sanskrit language.
4. Monthly lessons
Students living outside Athens can form a separate class and attend lessons once a month.
5. Teaching and Research
Research projects. Translation and publication of Sanskrit texts. Preparing audio-visual teaching material. Republication of Dimitrios Galanos’ books. Teacher training course for beginners.
All the lessons are conducted under the guidance of the Indologist Professor Dimitrios Vasiliadis.
