Announcement for a Visiting Faculty Position in Greek Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India

The Government of the Hellenic Republic has endowed a Chair in Classical Greek Studies in the School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. India. It is proposed to have a Visiting Scholar in position against this Chair with effect from the semester beginning August 2023.

Jawaharlal Nehru University is looking for a scholar for appointment at the level of Professor/ Associate Professor who can organize teaching and research programme in Greek Studies which may include Classical and Modern Greek Language, Literature, Philosophy, Culture and History. Initially, the tenure is for one year to be extended by another year by mutual agreement. The scholar will be organizing a lecture series in Greek thought and culture, give courses in Greek Language, Literature, Philosophy and History and thus initiate a programme of study that over a period of time would mature into a Greek Studies Programme. This Scholar will also interact with the faculty members of Jawaharlal Nehru University in other Schools of Studies.

The University would pay to the Scholar occupying the Chair according to his qualification, current status etc. The scholar shall also be provided both ways airfare for self and his/her spouse and free furnished accommodation. The Chair carries the minimum of Indian University Professor’s salary at INR.1,44,200/- plus other allowances added up to the tune of Rs. 58,678/-, (Total Rs. 2,02,876/-) which should ensure a comfortable stay in JNU. The University also offers a two bedroom compact accommodation on campus adequate for a family or There is also an option to offer House Rent Allowance (HRA) at the rate prescribed for its employees in case the occupant of the Chair looks for accommodation outside of JNU Campus. In addition, the Chair also has a provision for (Economic Class) airfare.
