Celebration of the Greek Independence Day in New Delhi – 2024

On the occasion of the celebration of the 203rd anniversary of Greek Independence Day, a formal reception was arranged by H.E. the Ambassador of Greece to New Delhi, Mrs. Aliki Koutsomitopoulou on March 27, 2024. The Guest of Honor at the reception was H.E. Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi, Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Government of India. 

The Ambassador of Greece to India, Mrs. Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, in her welcoming speech, said that Greece and India share an ever growing friendship and that they are natural allies, entering a very dynamic phase of their relationship following its elevation to a Strategic Partnership, after the high level visit of PM Modi to Greece last August and that of PM Mitsotakis last February.

State Minister Meenakshi Lekhi praised the multi millennial bonds between our two countries, and underlined that countries such as India and Greece managed to maintain their identity despite difficulties. She highlighted the contribution of Greek Indologists like Dimitrios Vassiliadis and Greek researchers of Indian music such as Konstantinos Kalaitzis.

The reception was attended by government and military officials, ambassadors, dignitaries,  as well as scholars and artists, businessmen, and friends of Greece. Greek Indian Business Association (GIBA) was represented by Mr. Kunal Ganeriwala.

Greek Independence Day, observed on March 25th, celebrates the country’s victory in the War for Independence, also known as the Greek Revolution, waged by the Greek revolutionaries between 1821 and 1832 against the Ottoman Turks. The national holiday is marked by great parades, patriotic speeches, and demonstrations in Greece and by the Greek delegations and communities abroad.
