In this journey, Greece & India have a huge potential to collaborate & grow together. The largest democracy of the world & the cradle of democracy have old civilisational ties. Time has come to take our economic engagement to next level.
I am optimistic that TIF2019 will serve as a key platform for building a robust partnership between our industry, private & public sector enterprises, & also for strengthening people-to-people ties.
Being ancient civilisations from the earliest days of human society, & with Greece having been India’s gateway to Europe both geographically & historically, our shared values of democracy, secularism, & multi- culturalism make us natural partners.
With the Greek economy showing signs of recovery, our objective in the next two years should be to enhance our bilateral trade from $650 million in 2018-19 to $1 billion by 2021.
Although there has been a phenomenal increase in the number of Indian tourists visiting Greece, there remains a vast untapped potential in the tourism sector. Our Bollywood industry can lend a fillip by shooting more films in this pristine Hellenic landscape.
India & Greece have a huge untapped potential in terms of bilateral trade. Signing of MoU between CII & Greece Federation of Industries (SBE) will lead to closer engagement between our businesses & identifying synergies.
Hon’ble PM of Greece has proposed a visit of a Greek delegation to India very soon. TiF is a wonderful opportunity for Indian businesses to showcase our rich heritage, our cutting edge innovation & our technological prowess. I wish all the participants of TiF a grand success!
I had the privilege of a very productive & engaging discussion with Hon’ble PM of Greece, Mr K. Mitsotakis. . I am confident that Greek economy is on its way to resounding growth under his leadership. We hope to take Indo-Greek relations to the next level through further engagements
