Webinar: Global views on Covind 19 – lessons we can learn from the 1918 global flu pandemic in India and Indonesia

Free Zoom Webinar on Apr 8, 2020 02:00 AM in Athens, featuring Cornell alumnus Siddharth Chandra (Michigan State University) on the lessons we can learn from the 1918 global flu pandemic. Register HERE

What can we expect in the coming weeks as the COVID 19 pandemic unfolds? How might we address the broad social, economic, and political consequences of the pandemic? How can teachers draw connections between topics in their courses and this current moment?

The second session in the Global Views on COVID 19 considers lessons we can learn from the 1918 global flu pandemic. There are plenty of resources describing the 1918/19 pandemic in the US and Western Europe, but how did it play out in other parts of the globe? Dr. Siddharth Chandra of Michigan State University will describe aspects of that earlier pandemic in British India and colonial Indonesia and provide teachers with some suggestions for ways to think and teach about comparisons across time and place. His 30 minute presentation will be followed by a Q & A period.

This webinar will be recorded, however the chat box and participant names will not be included in the recording.
