India increases e-visa’s duration to 5 years
The Indian Government has increased from September 2019, the maximum validity of e-tourist from existing 365 days to 5 years with multiple entries from the date of issue of the e-visa online. On e-tourist visa, continuous stay during each visit shall not exceed 90 days. The cost of the e-visa has also been decreased considerably. New e-Tourist Visa Categories; September 2019 Updated
- e-Tourist Visa – 30 days India e-Visa (April to June)
- e-Tourist Visa – 30 days India e-Visa (July to March)
- e-Tourist Visa – 01 year India eVisa
- e-Tourist Visa – 05 year India eVisa
India e-tourist visa is granted to those who intend to go to India for Touring, sightseeing, visiting friends, relatives, short term yoga programme. It is usually issued within 72 hours with multiple entries valid for 30 days to 5 years depends upon visa that you are applied for it.
Applicants of the eligible countries/territories may apply online on Indian Government website HERE minimum 4 days in advance of the date of departure. Be sure to print the final e-visa form and not your application form. The e-visa will have the following format.
E-visa facility has been extended to the nationals of 161 countries for entry through 24 designated Airports (i.e. Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum & Varanasi) and 3 designated seaports (i.e. Cochin, Goa, Mangalore). However, the foreigner can exit from any of the authorized Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) in India. This service will also be provided from Mumbai and Chennai seaports shortly.
Under the e-visa scheme, an applicant receives an email authorizing him or her to travel to India after it has been approved. The tourist can travel with a print-out of this authorization. Biometric details of the applicant will be mandatorily taken at Immigration on arrival in India.
The liberalization of the visa procedure is believed to considerably facilitate entry of foreigners into India for tourism, business and medical purposes. Consequently, the arrival of foreigners in India is expected to go up substantially in the coming years. This will in turn give a boost to tourism, medical and business sectors resulting in substantial increase in direct and indirect employment in these sectors.
Foreign Tourists Arrivals (FTAs) in India during the year 2015 were 8,027,133 with a growth rate of 4.5% over the year 2014 and during the year 2016 were 8,889,784 with a growth rate of 10.7% over the year 2015.
