Academy of Athens Award for the book “Demetrios Galanos: His life and unknown work in India”

We are pleased to inform you that the Plenary of the Academy of Athens, in the context of the annual reviews for the award of its announced prizes, as well as the honorary distinctions awarded without a corresponding announcement, has decided to award without a corresponding announcement the Prize of the Order of Moral and Social Sciences to the book by Dr. Miltiadis At. Spyrou “Demetrios Galanos: His Life and Unknown Work in India” published by the Hellenic-Indian Society for Culture and Development, Athens, 2023.

The award ceremony will take place during the Solemn Session of the Academy on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 18:00, in the Ceremonial Hall of the Academy of Athens (28 Panepistimiou and Sina, Athens). The award for the book by the late Indologist and researcher Dr. Miltiadis A. Spyrou will be received by his sister, Mrs. Zoe Xirou, and the publisher and editor of the book, Dr. Dimitrios Vassiliadis.

The President of the Academy of Athens, Prof. Michael Stathopoulos, receives the first copy of Miltiades Spyrou’s book on D. Galanos and congratulates Dr. Dimitrios Vassiliadis and the Ambassador of Australia Mr. Arthur Spyrou on its publication.

The book “Demetrios Galanos: His Life and Unknown Work in India” was first presented at a special event on the topic “The research work of Indologist Miltiadis Spyrou and the unknown publications of Demetrius Galanos in India,” organized on June 13, 2023, by the Academy of Athens, under the chairmanship of Prof. Michael Stathopoulos,
