ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Buddhism is one of the world’s largest religions and originated 2500 years back in India. Buddhism, as an Indian religion also known as Dharma or Dharma Vinaya. The history of Buddhism starts with the life of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became as “Lord Buddha”, meaning “The Awakened One.”
Buddha’s teaching techniques set the foundation for ‘Buddhism’. Buddha made this tradition easier for all casts and clans. This highlights mindfulness, compassion, and the path to liberation from suffering. Buddha’s teachings help us understand Dharma, which revolves around the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path that gives us a path to liberation from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. His teaching lessons were initially passed down verbally, but later it was transcribed into texts by his disciples.
Emperor Ashoka played a pivotal role in promoting Buddhist principles and constructing stupas and monasteries. Over centuries, the history of Buddhism in India spread along with Asia as well, Buddhism was adopted by many people from different cultures and their various aspects of life, including art and architecture. This led to the establishment of different schools, including Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana, each is offering unique interpretations of the Buddha’s teachings. Mahayana Buddhism is extensively believed to be the largest, because of its prevalence in several countries with very large Buddhist populations, particularly China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand, Sri Lanka etc. It is the Impression of Buddhism that it touches almost every aspect of life such as society, art, architecture, religion, trade and commerce and many more.
Thus, Buddhism, as one of the world’s most influential religious and philosophical traditions, has deeply shaped the cultural, historical, and archaeological landscapes of various civilizations. This international conference aims to provide a platform for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to investigate into the multi-layered aspects of Buddhism-its history, cultural impact, and archaeological significance. The event will bring experts together from around the world to share insights, discoveries, and perspectives on Buddhism across time and space.
