Honorary distinction from the Democritus University of Thrace to Prof. Anil Kumar Singh for his contribution to the spread of Greek Letters in India
The Scientific Board of the Modern Greek and Comparative Literature Laboratory during its second meeting of the current calendar year (2022) has unanimously decided to appoint Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, Chair for Greek Studies at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi as External Honorary Member of the Modern Greek and Comparative Literature Laboratory at the Department of Greek Philology, Democritus University of Thrace.
This decision is a tangible expression of recognition of Prof. Anil Kumar Singh’s contribution to the cultivation of Greek Studies in India and in particular at the Chair of Greek Studies of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi where he teaches the Greek Language and Culture since 2011.
The purpose of the Greek Chair in JNU is to develop collaborations, beyond Athens and Thessaloniki, and with other Universities in Greece, like the Democritus University in Thrace, which produces important work in its field and has rich and long experience in international exchange programs, such as Erasmus Mundus. Its expertise would be crucial if the two universities decide to launch exchange programs for students and teaching staff to further develop academic cooperation between the two countries.
Brief Profile of Dr. Anil Kumar Singh
Dr. Anil Kumar Singh (Born 1974) is educated at MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly, CCS University, Meerut, University of Ioannina, Greece and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He holds Ph.D., MBA and MA Degrees and has attended courses in Modern Greek Language, Literature and Culture Studies at prestigious Greek Universities.
He got scholarships from ICHR, Govt. of India and State Scholarship Foundation, Greece for his academic research. He is Managing Editor of Journal of People’s History Society “Janitihas” and associated with International Journal of Indian Society for Greek and Roman Studies “Yavanika” as Guest Editor. He has edited two books, Dialogue of Civilizations: India and Greece (Aryan Books International, 2019) and Hindu Dharma Ke Aadhar Tattva (IHRC, 2022) besides many research papers/articles in reputed journals and has attended and organised many national and international seminars, conferences and workshops.
He worked as Principal & Lecturer at Nehtaur Degree College, Bijnor (2005-2007), Sr. Lecturer at Faridabad Institute of Technology, Faridabad (2007-2009), IKY Post Doctoral Research Scholar (2009-2010) at University of Ioannina, Greece, Assistant Professor at Deep Institute of Engineering and Technology and Group Institutions, Nuh, Mewat (Haryana) and presently working as an Assistant Professor at the Greek Chair, School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies, JNU, New Delhi. Besides being Coordinator of Linguistic Empowerment Cell (LEC) he has also served Jawaharlal Nehru University as Programme Coordinator of National Service Scheme (NSS).
He is Honorary President of the Indo-Hellenic Research Centre, New Delhi and an active member of the Indo-Hellenic Friendship League, Indian History Congress, Life Member of Uttar Pradesh History Congress, Member of the Board of Studies, School of Humanities, University of Mumbai, Member of the Board of Studies, Latin Greek and Modern European Languages, University of Mumbai, Member of the Advisory Board of Collcom Organisation , Reviewer of Ancient Punjab, the Journal of the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan and Member of the Editorial Board of the Journal “Doctrine” published by the Academic Research Society of Uttar Pradesh.
