Indian dances, tastes and cinema at the Cosmopolis Ethnic Festival of Kavala
In the heart of the summer, from 19 to 22 July 2018, the rhythms of the world will fill the city of Kavala once again during the multicultural Cosmopolis Ethmic Festival, which has been established as one of the greatest cultural events in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace since 2000, when it was held for the first time.
In this year’s festival, which was launched with the welcome address of the mayor of Kavala, Mrs. Dimitra Tsanaka, eight countries – India, Costa Rica, Argentina, Italy, Spain (Andalusia), Romania, Russia (Kazaks) and Greece (Crete) – participate. More than 250 dancers will present traditional dances and songs from their countries.
For four consecutive days, apart from dances, thousands of visitors will be able to see movies, purchase products from the countries-participats, and enjoy their tastes in the open-air restaurant set in the old town. The festival will be enriched with the simultaneous organization of major musical concerts in the imposing Fortress of Kavala and many other events that make up the colorful and multi-dimensional mosaic of Cosmopolis.
India participates in Cosmopolis with 35 musicians and dancers from the Shivam Nrutya Cultural Academy, which will perform folk dances from different parts of India. The main objective and mission of the Academy, which has already participated in many international festivals, is to promote Indian culture on the international stage and to preserve its authenticity.
Besides, on Saturday 21 July 2018 at 21.30, guests will be able to enjoy Indian dishes at the Cosmopolitan Restaurant and at 22.30 to watch the Indian musical film, Tahsan: The child with a grenade.
