Eight lectures on Yoga Philosophy (Shaivism) 2017-18
The Athens Center for Indian and Indo-Hellenic Studies and the Shakti Yoga Studio organize a second course of monthly lectures on the Philosophy of Yoga with the Indologist professor and author Dr Dimitrios Vassiliadis.
The theme of this year’s lectures will focus on the meditative methods and yogic practices that have been developed through the tradition of self-recognition (pratyabhijnya) in Kashmir Shaivism. The central position of this philosophy is that everything is an expression of the absolute consciousness (Shiva), and that through certain methods and practices it is possible to recognize this fundamental reality and to be free from the bonds that confine us consciously, mentally and physically to our transient individual existence.
The course is intended primarily for yoga teachers and scholars but can be attended by anyone who has basic knowledge of the Indian philosophy and wishes to deepen his/her knowledge on the various traditions of yoga.
The lectures take place in the hall of Shakti Yoga Studio (17-19 Labrou Fotiadou str., Mets, Athens) once a month on Saturday, at 13: 00-15: 00 hrs on the following dates:
