The festivities began with Rabindranath Tagore’s famous song ‘Esho hey Baishakh, esho, esho (come O Baishakh, come)’ and the reading by H.E. the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Greece Mr. Md. Jasim Uddin of the greetings sent by the Honorable President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to countrymen and all Bangla-speaking people across the globe.
Bengali women wearing traditional colorful dresses set up small kiosks and entertain customers and visitors with Bengali dishes and sweets on the first day of the New Year as part of the tradition and culture. A rich cultural program with Bengali songs and dances continued until late in the night.
