Planting of 150 trees in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi in Veikos Park

On the occasion of the celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, 150 trees will be planted in Veikos Park – this will be dedicated to this iconic personality of the world peace movement.

The Indian Embassy in Athens in cooperation with the Ministry of the Environment and the Municipality of Galatsi will do this symbolic act, which is a part of the global action undertaken by the Indian Government that takes place simultaneously in all capitals of the world.

In particular, the 150 trees, offered by the Indian Government, will be planted in the upper uncovered section of the Park. The symbolic planting of 5 high trees will take place on the World Environment Day on Wednesday, June 5, at 9 am in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Famelos, the Mayor of Galatsi Mr. Markopoulos and officials of the Embassy of India in Athens. The planting of the remaining 145 trees will take place in October when the climatic conditions will be more favorable.
