Celebration of the Independence Day of Bangladesh in Athens

H.E. Ambassador of Bangladesh Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin welcomed Greek, Bangladeshis and other invitees at the reception organized by the Embassy on March 28, 2017 at the Hilton Hotel in Athens to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the Independence Day of Bangladesh.
The Greek government was represented by the Deputy Foreign Minister responsible for European Affairs, Mr. George Katrougalos, who spoke about the friendly relations between the two countries and the positive prospects for their further development. The reception was attended by several foreign diplomats including Indian Ambassador to Greece Ms. Murugesan Manimekalai, by President of ELINEPA Dr. Dimitrios Vassiliadis and General Secretary of ELINEPA Mr. Antonis Papadopoulos.
The Independence Day of Bangladesh (Bengali: স্বাধীনতা দিবস Shadhinôta Dibôs) also referred to as 26 March is a national holiday that commemorates the country’s declaration of independence from Pakistan in the late hours of 25 March 1971. The People’s Republic of Bangladesh has a secular constitution and enjoys close ties with India. Bengali or Bangla is the official language of Bangladesh and of several northeastern states of the Republic of India, including West Bengal, Tripura, Assam (Barak Valley) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
