Indian PM Narendra Modi praises Greek singer for excellent performance of Gandhi’s favorite song

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shared a music video on YouTube and Twitter  of Greek singer Kostas Kalaitzis’ performance of “Vaishnav Jan To” – one of the favorite songs of Mahatma Gandhi.

“Presenting, ‘Vaishnava Jana To’ by Konstantinos Kalaitzis, using Greek folk instruments, Klarino and Cretan Lyre. #Gandhi150,”Modi wrote on the headline of his tweet.

“The favorite song of Mahatma Gandhi, Vaishnav Jan To, was performed by an admirer of India and music, Konstantinos Kalaitzis in Greece, using Greek folk instruments, Clarinet and Cretan Lyra. #Gandhi150” Modi tweeted  in the Greek language, in honor of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Kalaitzis’ performance is accompanied by Stefanos Ganotis (Cretan lyre), Panos Skouteris( clarinet) and Christos Maragudakis (quitar). The documentary was made by Katerina Tsourlaki and it was sponsored by the Indian embassy in Athens.

On the occasion of the global celebrationsfor the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the government of India has recorded this song performed by native singers from more than 120 countries.
