Meeting of ELINEPA’s president Dr Dimitrios Vassiliadis with Prof. U.P. Arora and Prof. Anil Kumar Singh
The President of ELINEPA and Director of the Athens Center for Indian and Indo-Hellenic Studies Dr. Dimitrios Vassiliadis met on March 3, 2025 with his old teacher Professor U.P. Arora at his residence in Faridabad, Haryana and presented him with a copy of Miltiadis Spyrou’s book “Dimitrios Galanos-: His life and unknown work in India” (ELINEPA publications, 2023) which had received the Academy of Athens award last year.
Prof. U.P. Arora has dedicated his entire life to the development of Greek and Indo-Hellenic studies and has contributed more than any other scholar in this field by publishing numerous research papers and books, in addition to inspiring and guiding many young scholars who are now professors in various Indian Universities. He is also the founder of the Indian Society for Greek and Roman Studies which publishes the annual academic forum “Yavanika”.

For his lifelong invaluable contribution, Prof. U.P. Arora was honored in 1998 by the President of the Hellenic Republic, H.E. Mr. Constantinos Stephanopoulos, with the Golden Cross of the Order of Honor.
Present at the meeting was Professor Anil Kumar Singh, the successor of U.P. Arora in the Greek Chair at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, who proposed the establishment of a Greek library in the name of his teacher U.P. Arora at JNU and to continue his legacy. The three scholars also discussed how they can collaborate further through their established institutions and take firm steps to promote Indo-Greek relations in various fields.
