Tagore-Nazrul Birth Anniversary Celebration 2019

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Athens organized a special cultural event to celebrate the 158th birth anniversary of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore and the 120th birth anniversary of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

The event took place on 22nd June 2019, at 18:00 pm, at the premises of the Embassy of Bangladesh and was attended by many members of the Bangladeshi community who live and work in Greece.

A rich cultural program with Bengali music, dance and poetry followed. The cultural program was directed by the Secretary of the Embassy Mr. Sujan Devnath and his wife and covered many aspects of the life in Bengal inspired by the poems and songs of Tagore and Nazrul. The celebration ended with delicious dishes from the Bangladeshi cuisine.

The Bangladesh community in Greece today has about 35,000 members. Most of them are active in Athens, while a large number of Bengalis works in the farms of Manolada, contributing significantly to the growth of the Greek economy. The Bangladesh community has two schools in Athens where children are taught the language and culture of Bangladesh.
