The “Light on Yoga” by B.K.S. Iyengar in Greek
Yoga practitioners and lovers of India and Indian philosophy in Greece are delighted to welcome the translation and publication in Greek of the book “Light on Yoga” by B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the most important yoga teachers worldwide. This classic, often referred to as the ‘Bible’ of yoga, which was first published in English in 1966, is an international best seller having sold over three million copies and has been translated into 23 languages.
The book consists of 500 pages, 17x24cm and is adorned by 600 black and white photographs of B.K.S. Iyengar himself executing with precision each one of the 200 āsana. It is divided into three parts: in the first one, the Introduction, a summary of yoga philosophy based on the Yoga Sūtra of Patañjali is presented, in the second part instructions and techniques for 200 āsana as well as information about bandha and kriyā is laid out, and, lastly, the third part is dedicated to prāṇāyāma (instructions and cautions, techniques and effects). In Appendix 1, the author has accounted for a 300-week āsana program for home practice, while Appendix 2 consists of therapeutic sequences for various ailments. Lastly, a table of correlating the āsana with the respective photo, a glossary of Sanskrit terms and a Sanskrit and Greek index are all included.
The Greek translation of Light on Yoga from English was realised by four certified Iyengar Yoga teachers (Haris Lyroni, Vula Bolou, Christos Pavlou and Alkiviadis Spiliopoulos), while the editor of the translated text was Ourania Kaiafa. The newly founded publishing house, Nāga, holds the exclusive rights for this book, as well as its printing and distribution. It has been typeset by “G. Argyropoulos Ltd. Graphic Arts” in April 2020, it boasts a tasteful cover, elegant typeset, sharp photographs, and lucid text, clear and fluent.
