Poetry Marathon, March 21, 2024

On the auspicious occasion of the World Poetry Day, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (E.K.P.A.) and the Municipality of Athens organized a “Poetry Marathon” in the Propylaia of the E.K.P.A., on Thursday, March 21, 2024 (10:00-22:00).

The “Poetry Marathon” was attended by students, teaching and administrative staff, members from the entire EKPA community, as well as residents of Athens. Indian languages teacher Dr. Dimitrios Vassiliadis recited in Hindi the poem तोड़ती पत्थर toḍtī patthar (Έσπαζε πέτρες) by Suryakant Tripathi ‘Nirala’ (1896–1961, West Bengal, India) at 11.00-12.00.

As part of the same action, a special musical event was held in the main hall of the EKPA. (19:00-20:00), with a recitation of Odysseus Elytis’ poems by Ioulita Iliopoulou, accompanied by classical melodies that the poet loved, performed on the piano by Alexandra Papastephanou.

The “Poetry Marathon” is the first event of a series of educational, cultural and artistic actions, under the general title “the E.K.P.A. in the City” held in co-organization with the Municipality of Athens.
